It doesn’t hurt that avocado itself is an all-star superfood. “Avocados are a good source of fiber and various vitamins and minerals, like vitamin C, vitamin K, folate, and potassium,” says Torey Armul, registered dietitian and spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

But their best feature is their heart-healthy monounsaturated fats. “Monounsaturated fats have cardio-protective properties and support healthy cholesterol levels. One study published in the Journal of the American Heart Association found that people who ate one avocado a day lowered their LDL cholesterol levels by about 14 points,” says Armul.
