Adele Feared For Her Life After Smoking 25 Cigarettes A Day
Adele has spoken recently about entering a new stage in her life. It turns out that breaking a bad habit might have been crucial in that process.
The 27-year-old revealed Friday that she quit smoking because she feared it would eventually kill her.Â
According to The Mirror, Adele was smoking up to 25 cigarettes a day before she stopped performing in 2011 and underwent vocal cord surgery to prevent permanent damage to her voice.Â
“If I’d carried on smoking I’d probably have died from a smoking-related illness and I think that’s really bad,â€Â she told The Mirror. “If I was dying from lung cancer I would have potentially given it to myself and that wouldn’t be something I’d be proud of.â€
In her cover story for Rolling Stone, the Grammy winner credited her new outlook to her 3-year-old son, Angelo.
“I absolutely loved [smoking], but it’s not that fucking cool when I’m dying from a smoking-related illness and my kid is, like, devastated,†she revealed.Â
In a 2011 interview with People, below, the singer described how she noticed a difference in her voice since she put down the cigarettes.Â
