They may be ingredients used everyday at home or in your favourite local restaurant, but these foods prove surprisingly tricky to identify in a new quiz.

The surprisingly fiendish challenge by Playbuzz tests foodies on their knowledge of gourmet ingredients from across the world by asking them to name the 15 items pictured in their raw state.

The test offers participants two choices of what the food could be – but still proves tricky despite there being a 50/50 chance of getting it right.

From seafood and offal, to seeds and herbs, the quiz really draws attention to how we rarely see some everyday items like tea and coffee in their pre-cooked state.

One question asks whether participants can tell the difference between a scallop and clam, while another tests them to see if they can spot if a shellfish is a shrimp or a crayfish – known as craw-fish in the US.

A picture of green-red berries is followed by a choice between superfood goji berries or coffee, while a green stem with leaves could be either a tea leaf or Asian basil leaf.
