Cheating the Day After Mother’s Day Is a Thing

In today’s seriously depressing news, tons of women want to cheat the day after Mother’s Day, according to AshleyMadison.com, a dating website specifically for people who want to have an affair. Last year, the site saw a 442 percent increase in women who signed up the Monday after mom’s day, according to a report from The New York Post—and because the trend’s been on an upswing since 2010, reps told The Post that they expect that number to climb to 500 percent this year.

But why would women be more likely to start on the path toward infidelity the day after they were supposed to have been shown so much appreciation? One woman who created an account on AshleyMadison.com the day after Mother’s Day spoke to The Post on the condition of anonymity. Here’s what she had to say:

“Opening the Mother’s Day card last year from my husband, Derek [not his real name], my heart sank. We’d been married for more than 15 years, and I was the mom of his two young children — but he hadn’t even thought to buy me flowers, let alone jewelry. The whole run-up to Mother’s Day had been depressing. It made me feel old, like I was losing my sexiness. My marriage was stuck in a rut.”
