Just a month after she shared a candid selfie of herself covered in zit cream, Daisy Ridley is urging women to listen to their bodies as she revealed her ongoing struggle with endometriosis that has left her plagued with acne.
The 24-year-old took to Instagram on Thursday to post a photo of herself happily posing for the camera while modeling a face mask, but her message had a more serious tone as she explained that she was 15 when she diagnosed with endometriosis, a disorder in which tissue that normally lines the uterus grows outside of it.
‘My skin was the worst,’ she recalled. ‘I’ve tried everything: products, antibiotics, more products, more antibiotics, and all that did was left my body in a bit of a mess. Finally found out I have polycycstic ovaries and that’s why it’s bad.’
Being honest: Daisy Ridley took to Instagram on Thursday to share a photo of herself wearing a face mask as she revealed her ongoing struggle with endometriosis
Opening up: The 24-year-old explained that the acne caused by the tissue disorder made her feel ‘self-conscious’ and left her confidence in ‘tatters’
And while she may come across as confident on the red carpet, the beautiful actress admitted that her battle with acne has riddled her with insecurity.
‘I can safely say feeling so self-conscious has left my confidence in tatters,’ she said. ‘I hate wearing make-up but I currently don’t want to leave the house without it on.’
Despite her ongoing struggle, Daisy said she is finding help from a dermatologist who has her cutting out dairy — ‘except for spontaneous ice creams’ — and cutting down sugar, which has already helped her skin.
The Star Wars actress noted that people have been ‘wonderful and encouraging’ to her while some kindly reminded that ‘there’s more to life’, but she explained that the reason for her post is really to encourage women to seek medical help if something doesn’t feel right with their bodies.
‘To any of you who are suffering with anything, go to a doctor; pay for a specialist; get your hormones tested, get allergy testing; keep on top of how your body is feeling and don’t worry about sounding like a hypochondriac,’ she wrote.

At 15 I was diagnosed with endometriosis. One laparoscopy, many consultations and 8 years down the line, pain was back (more mild this time!) and my skin was THE WORST. I’ve tried everything: products, antibiotics, more products, more antibiotics and all that did was left my body in a bit of a mess. Finally found out I have polycycstic ovaries and that’s why it’s bad.
I can safely say feeling so self conscious has left my confidence in tatters. I hate wearing make up but I currently don’t want to leave the house without it on. HOWEVER PROGRESS IS BEING MADE! (With some help from a dermatologist and cutting out dairy (waah, except for spontaneous ice creams) and cutting down sugar (bigger waah but gotta do what you’ve gotta do)). Finally. Finally. (Throughout all this I’ve only had people being wonderful and encouraging and occasionally making me realise I’m being ridiculous and there’s more to life)…
My point is, to any of you who are suffering with anything, go to a doctor; pay for a specialist; get your hormones tested, get allergy testing; keep on top of how your body is feeling and don’t worry about sounding like a hypochondriac. More than 218,000 people liked Daisy’s post, with many praising her for speaking so candidly about such a private topic.
Many women took the opportunity to share their own stories about their struggles with endometriosis and polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), a hormonal disorder causing enlarged ovaries with small cysts on the outer edges.
‘It is very wonderful for you to share your story,’ one Instagram user commented. ‘Hopefully young girls and even those women of childbearing age will see they aren’t alone and visit the doctors.’
Another added: ‘I just found out I have PCOS, too and it’s tough. There are good days and some really horrible ones and I’m happy you’ve come out and said this uplifting message.’
Inspiring: Thousands of people responded to Daisy’s story and revealed their own struggles with the disorder
Changing lives: One person noted that she was happy that Daisy came out and shared such an ‘uplifting message’
Last month, Daisy shared a selfie that sees her covered in zit cream after she posted a more glamorous photograph of herself at an A-list bash.
It came after she warned that social media is the ‘most filtered’ and ‘cleverly edited moments’ of people’s lives, adding that she tended not to post no make-up selfies because her skin ‘isn’t great’.
Earlier that day, Daisy had posted a picture of herself at the post-Oscars Vanity Fair party in February, writing: ‘Almost 2 million followers what?!
‘I’m currently sat writing an essay covered in spot cream drinking mint tea but no one wants to see that so instead here’s me looking all fancy pants at the post Oscars Vanity Fair pardeeeee! [sic]’
Keeping it real: Daisy shared a selfie showing her face covered in zit cream on Instagram last month
Natural beauty: But before that post, she shared a picture of herself looking glam at the post-Oscars Vanity Fair party in February to celebrate having almost two million followers
But later changing her mind, she posted the candid picture of herself wearing glasses with her hair tied up into a bun.
Hiding the bottom of her face with a mug, the picture showed her skin speckled with white spot cream.
The caption read: ‘Actually why not! #istillputafilteronit #spotcreamwin #hidingmostofmyface #igotthismugfromtheellenshowanditismassiveandamazing #kobekobekobe’ [sic].
Her fans rushed to praise her for being a ‘great role model’ and the post has been liked more than 150,000 times.
One person commented ‘You look absolutely beautiful with and without makeup’, while another added ‘Thanks for keeping it real’.
