Does This Mom Doing Yoga Over Her Baby’s Crib Bother You?

In the clip, Darnell does downward dog, mountain climbers, pushups, and side plank dips with her hands and feet on top of the crib’s frame, while Olive plays with toys beneath her. She immediately received comments like “That is so dangerous” and “Stop putting your child at risk.”

Darnell was confused by the negative reactions. “I know my skill set,” she told People. “I know what I’m safely capable of performing. My child’s safety is always my number one concern.” (Tone up and chill out with our Flat Belly Yoga routine!)

She has a point: Darnell has a gymnastics and Pilates background, and she’s constantly working out. In fact, this isn’t the first time she’s posted a video of a routine with her baby—just the first time the social media world deemed a particular one was unsafe.

Most Insta-famous fitness pros post videos of their insane workout feats all the time. Rarely are they doing so as an actual demo or lesson—but rather as a quick peek into what their training involves and how they squeeze it in, to serve as inspiration—not imitation—for the rest of us. “I would never encourage someone to perform an exercise outside of her comfort zone,” Darnell said. Word.

But there’s a whole ‘nother issue here. The feedback she received is just another form of mom-shaming. Why is the internet so damm judgemental?

“Being a mom is hard work, and no one understands that better than other moms,” Darnell said in her People interview. “We need to support each other.”

Amen, mama. Amen.
