According to Mic, the maestros behind this magic claim that coconut ash is a form of activated charcoal, a trendy ingredient popular in cleanses. Hyped for its potential detoxifying properties, some claim charcoal works sort of like a water filter for your bod.

But is this ice cream really healthier for you than the regular charcoal-free variety? Not so much, says Keri Gans, R.D., author of The Small Diet Change. Ice cream is still ice cream. “As for nutritional benefits, there is no research to support any of the health claims for activated charcoal,” says Gans.

Welp, no ice cream cleanse for you. But at least the inky concoction will make for a creamy alternative to your standard sweet treats this summer. (Just beware: It leaves your lips black.)
