I Tried a Sex Fitness Class—and Lost 50 Pounds

Vixen Workout, a $12 to $18 dance fitness class with locations across the U.S., encourages students to rock lipstick, loose hair, and skin-baring apparel while they learn seductive moves. Here, Teena, who’s been a part of the “Vixen Army” for three years now, shares her feedback.

“I’ve been with my boyfriend for a little over six years. Before I started Vixen, we were sexually active, but I always felt self-conscious. I didn’t feel sexy. When I went in for my first class, I stood in the back because I wanted to be invisible. But now, I go right to the front. I want to be seen. I lost 50 pounds from the class, and the confidence I’ve gained is incredible. When I get home, I want to show my boyfriend all the new moves I’ve learned. Our sex life is so much better now that I feel better about my body. I like to leave the lights on, and my stamina has increased.”

So, is this for you? There are not many other places where you’ll be told, “Look at yourself in the mirror and seduce yourself,” says Janet Jones, Vixen Workout’s founder. But if twerking to your own reflection isn’t your thing, know this: A lot of these sex-conscious classes focus on core work, and you’ll be able to notice the results in bed. “Anything that accesses your core will help strengthen your pelvic floor and improve your sexual response,” says Berman.
