Images reveal humanity’s harshest diseases in colour scans

New mind-blowing images from an array of medical scans show the pain inflicted by some of the bodies most devestating ailments.

From an x-ray of debilitating arthritis in someone’s fingers to an ultrasound scan of a man’s ballooning prostate gland, the vividly coloured pictures illustrate common illnesses that some suffer with every day.

The scans and x-rays, provided by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in Maryland, show the shocking extent to which some diseases can affect the human body, and the different sizes in which they appear.

Other images in the real show an x-ray of arteriosclerosis, the process in which arteries thicken and harden with age, and the dire results of a colon cancer screening.
