Norfolk mother celebrates losing 4st by holding up her daughter

A mother-of-two who used to eat an entire loaf of bread a day has lost four stone – exactly the same weight as her seven-year-old daughter. 

Roxanne Bevilacqua, 28, from Carbrooke, Norfolk, ballooned to more than 19 stone thanks to her junk food habit and her love of white bread.

It was only when she saw a picture of herself taken by daughter Yasmin five months that she decided to lose weight.

Roxanne, who works in Subway, now weighs 14st 7lbs and has dropped from a size 22 to a size 14.

She celebrated her dramatic weight loss by sharing a picture of herself holding her daughter Yasmin to show how well she’s done. 

Before embarking on her new diet, Roxanne would eat a loaf of bread a day – including six slices of toast for breakfast and at least two takeaways a week. 

‘Before I would literally have bread for every meal, and I loved chocolate and crisps,’ she said.

‘I never noticed how big I had got until Yasmin showed me this picture that she’d taken of me and I was just shocked – I thought ‘Oh my god – is that me?’

‘I got to the point where I was too fat to wear jeans so I just lived in leggings and flat shoes as my legs were too fat for anything else but now I can wear what I want and nearly cried the first time I went shopping for jeans.’

Roxanne decided to lose weight at the same time as her mother, and the pair had a weekly bet to spur each other on.

She joined Slimming World and almost completely cut bread from her diet – helping her shed the pounds.  

‘Whoever lost the biggest amount of weight each week would get £2 from the other person – I was so competitive that it made me work really hard,’ she said.

BEFORE DIET 

Breakfast Six slices of white toast covered in butter

Lunch – Four slices of bread in a sandwich with crisps, chocolate bar and a yoghurt

Dinner – 9” pizza with chips, chicken, cheese bites, beans and garlic bread

Snacks – Packet of crisps, biscuits, chocolate and more toast

DIET NOW

Breakfast – Two hifi bars (from Slimming World), a fat free yoghurt and fruit or two weetabix and fruit on top

Lunch – Chicken salad or a mug shot with fruit

Dinner – Fish with potatoes and vegetables

Snacks – Fruit

‘I’ve learnt to control what I eat now and since losing the weight I feel absolutely fantastic, I’m so much healthier now,’ she added.

She had never struggled with her weight until she had children and piled on the pounds. It was then that she struggled to shift the pounds and change her eating habits.

Roxanne would have at least two takeaways a week which would normally be from her local Chinese, a McDonald’s or she would get a kebab. 

Despite wanting to lose a further three stone to reach her goal, Roxanne couldn’t be happier and says she has so much more energy to play with Yasmin and her four-year-old son Damilola.

Roxanne said: ‘I would make excuses before not to leave the house and if I did it’d have to be for a good reason.

‘Now I walk everywhere I can, I used to drag along behind my kids but now I’m the one telling them we should go out or to the park.

‘It’s great, losing this much weight has changed me so much – I’m so much more energetic and haven’t got too long until I reach my target.

‘I used to have problems with my knees and my back and they would always ache but since I lost the weight I can do so much more now.’
