Science Shows It Might Be a Good Idea to Wait Until Your 30s to Have Kids

If your mom has been hinting about grandkids since you were 23, but reminding her that Kim Kardashian didn’t have North West until she was 32 isn’t working anymore, you can now forward her this story.

A new study says that waiting until you’re around 30 to have your first kid could help minimize some of the known income losses related to motherhood. Published in the journal PLOS ONE, the findings held true for women with and without a college degree. However, researchers did note that women without college degrees, who had their first child before the age of 25, took the biggest salary hit. The findings are based on an analysis of the work experience, birth statistics, and various household data of nearly 1.6 million Danish women ages 25 to 60, between 1995 and 2009.
