Student nurses: Plan to scrap bursaries criticised

Health unions have written to David Cameron urging him to halt a plan to replace bursaries for nursing and midwifery training courses in England with loans.

More than 20 groups led by the Royal College of Nursing said it could put people off working for the NHS.

The government argues that abolishing the bursary would allow the creation of an extra ten thousand student nursing places each year.
