An obese woman who lost a staggering 115lbs (8st) following the breakdown of a relationship says people couldn’t believe she’d achieved her new look naturally.
Beautiful Laura Micetich, 25, from Tennessee, ballooned to nearly 300lbs (21 stone) after a life-time of eating in secret.
Standing at six-foot tall, Laura said her body made her feel ‘intimidating’ and she decided to get fit after her four-year relationship ended.

The same girl? Laura Micetich, 25, said people often assume she resorted to surgery when they hear about her weight-loss, barely believing she’s the same girl as before
The Tennessee teacher says she joined a gym after starting her degree, fearing that she wouldn’t be a good role model for students
The teacher, from the city of Jackson, initially considered weight-loss surgery but when she joined a gym and watched the first few pounds fall off she realised that she could do it naturally.
Two years later and the pretty brunette looks so different that people have accused her of having surgery or taking weight loss pills to achieve her new look.
Laura, who is known online as the Iron Giantess, said: ‘With my height and being that size, I was imitating.’

She added: ‘The turning point was after I had graduated and just came out of a four year relationship.
‘I was going into a teaching degree and wanted to be a good role model the kids.
Laura says she would eat in secret and often binge-ate her way through sugary snacks and bad food, saying: ‘I would go to the fridge and find something I needed – it was a bit of addiction. It wasn’t emotional eating, it was just something I did.’
‘It wasn’t emotional eating, it was just something I did.’ Laura says that she struggled with binge eating and would gorge on sugary foods in secret
In shape: Laura used weight lifting as a way of getting fit, something she credits with ensuring she doesn’t have any loose skin
But the fear of standing in front of a classroom of children meant she stayed motivated at the gym, following a strict exercise plan.
She says: ‘I am a teacher and my size was the first thing the kids picked up on. It wasn’t them being mean spirited, kids just have no problem being honest.’
Laura switched to clean eating and started weight lifting. In just a year she had lost half her body weight.
She said: ‘People think I have had surgery but it was all natural. I worked really hard.
‘I’ve even had people steal my photos and used it for weight loss pills claiming I used them to slim down but that’s not true.
And Laura’s skin was left smooth despite the dramatic weight-loss, something she puts down to weight-lifting: ‘I think it helped me not to have lots of excess skin.’
Laura says her Instagram account also played a big part in her role of getting fit.
She said: ‘At first I prayed no one would find my account as I am not really a social media girl.
‘But documenting my journey played a huge role of getting me fit as there was community to support and encourage me and vice versa.’
The gym is a scary place: the six-foot teacher says she faced discrimination when working out with people thinking that she wasn’t serious about losing the weight
For Laura, joining a gym was key in her transformation but she revealed that many of her fellow gym bunnies initially doubted her commitment.
Laura explains: ‘The gym is a scary place. I decided just to go and not care what people thought but after I had lost the weight someone told me that they hadn’t expected me to make it.
‘They said that people at the gym had thought it was a joke and they were surprised by how I was getting healthy.
‘There’s a lot of discrimination out there. It’s hard. But what I learnt was to stop victimising myself and to be kind to myself.
She added: ‘My main goal is just to be happy and healthy. I love the gym now – I do weight training six days a week but it’s more about the lifestyle now not just losing weight.’
