The Natural Secrets For Hormone Replacement, From Dr. Christiane Northrup (VIDEO)
If you’re just starting menopause and don’t want to resort to hormone replacement therapy, Dr. Christiane Northrup says there are a few things you can incorporate into your diet to help with your symptoms. Eat foods that are high in omega three fats and magnesium, as well as iodine, which balances estrogen. Dr. Northrup personally uses an herb called pueraria mirifica. “It’s a miracle herb from Thailand that’s been used for almost 700 years,†Dr. Northrup explains. “Look for the kind that contains puresterol, which means it has been extracted correctly.†This supplement has also been shown to have a great effect on bones, heart, female tissues, and even the brain, so Dr. Northrup recommends taking it even if you aren’t going through menopause!

Mouth breathing is a stress response, which will signal to your body that there is an emergency. Stress hormones will result. A slow deep breath in and out through your nose will engage your “rest and restore†parasympathetic nervous system almost instantly.
An optimal vitamin D level should read between 40-80 ng/ml. People with optimal levels have half the cancer risk than those whose levels are lower than this! You can even order a test kit to do at home— and read all the vitamin D research at www.grassrootshealth.net.
Sitting is as bad for you as smoking, but standing isn’t great for you either. You need to move your body through gravity! Dr. Northrup recommends that you stand from a seated position at least once every 10 minutes. Doing this is very health protective.
Your fasting blood sugar should be 85 mg/dl— no higher. If it’s higher, it’s time to do something about it by changing your diet and managing your stress levels. Fluctuating blood sugar results in cellular inflammation, which is the root cause of nearly all chronic degenerative diseases. With these test results, you can actually take steps to prevent diabetes, cancer and chronic disease later on. Get a fasting insulin level done, as well as a Hemoglobin A1C — which will let you know what your blood sugar has been doing for the last month.
Standard cholesterol testing is obsolete. You need to know your LDL particle size. Ask your doctor for a NMR profile. This test isn’t done regularly, but it’s important that you have it done, and then make the necessary dietary and lifestyle changes.
Carbs are the reason for the obesity epidemic. To lose weight and keep it off, you need to figure out how carb sensitive you are. For an exquisite discussion of this, Dr. Northrup recommends reading The Plant Plus Diet Solution by Joan Borysenko, PhD.
Sleep is the great healer, and you need 8 solid hours of it to be at your best. To ensure this, get off the computer and television screens an hour before bedtime. The blue spectrum lights from a TV screen actually impede sound sleep. Take a warm bath. Let your body wind down!
Keep your bedroom at a cool 65 or so. Anything hotter results in poor sleep!
Create daily rituals of pleasure in which you are fully enjoying the moment. Eat a small piece of dark chocolate slowly and sensually. Enjoy a favorite TV show — take a warm bath while reading a good book. Sip a glass of red wine. The point is that the ritual, if enjoyed fully, will contribute to your health. There’s a big difference between a ritual and an addiction!
