This Unfiltered Photo Shows What A Post-Baby Body REALLY Looks Like

Real life: I took this photo 8 days post birth. I left the hospital looking 5 months pregnant. Many people think a woman should shrink right back to her pre-birth weight immediately. That is just not the truth for most. The female body is incredible and resilient, but healing and strengthening take time. Now it’s time for patience and hard work. Lots of love to all the new mamas out there on the journey. #yesihaveascrunchieinmyhair #shaiiswortheverypound

Luckily, Peta isn’t the only celebrity mom who has gotten real about the fact that it takes time, patience, and hard work to go back to your pre-baby body—a growing number of famous women have done the same thing.

In September, Hilaria Baldwin posted a selfie of her body right after she had her son Leonardo. It always makes me a bit nervous to do something like this, but I feel that in the age of such strong body shaming, I want to do all that I can to normalize a real body and promote healthy self esteem,” she wrote.

I took this yesterday when Leonardo was about 24 hours old. I did the same thing right after Rafael was born. It always makes me a bit nervous to do something like this, but I feel that in the age of such strong body shaming, I want to do all that I can to normalize a real body and promote healthy self esteem. Many of you know that I love to show the process of life’s experiences on the body and I am a firm believer in how a good diet and the right balance of exercise make us happy, healthy, and strong. So from here on, I want to dedicate the majority of my #366daysoflivingclearly #hilarialcm daily posts to getting back in shape and I invite you to do it with me. Common questions last time were: Did I have a c section?: No, I pushed him out Where are all the pads for bleeding?: I took them out briefly to snap this pic as there is a limit to how much you need to see. Where am I?: in the hospital room bathroom #glamour Oh, and no filter. Just brightened it up a bit.

In August, Chrissy Teigen shared a Snapchat photo of her post-partum stretch marks. “LOL My thighs have tributaries,” she wrote next to a crying face emoji.

Anne Hathaway also wrote on Instagram that her body wasn’t back to normal right away. “There is no shame in gaining weight during pregnancy (or ever). There is no shame if it takes longer than you think it will to lose the weight (if you want to lose it at all),” she captioned a photo of cut-off jeans. “Bodies change. Bodies grow. Bodies shrink. It’s all love (don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.)” (Get strong and fit with the Women’s Health Lift to Get Lean DVD.)

There is no shame in gaining weight during pregnancy (or ever). There is no shame if it takes longer than you think it will to lose the weight (if you want to lose it at all). There is no shame in finally breaking down and making your own jean shorts because last summer’s are just too dang short for this summer’s thighs. Bodies change. Bodies grow. Bodies shrink. It’s all love (don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.) Peace xx #noshame #lovewhatyouhavebeengiven

Bottom line: If your body isn’t back to its pre-baby size right after you give birth, you’re doing just fine.
