TV Presenter Lorraine Kelly takes our health quiz

CAN YOU RUN UP THE STAIRS?

I’m pretty fit.

I skip up and down eight flights of stairs up to four times a day at work and attend exercise classes in a local church hall twice a week — it’s a wonderful hour of dance-based moves set to cracking music.

I find it a great stress-buster, too. I love Zumba and have run marathons, but I prefer power-walking.

In London, I walk everywhere while in Scotland, I love going for yomps along the beach or up in the hills.

GET YOUR FIVE A DAY?

I try to. I love smoothies and have raspberries and blueberries in my porridge every morning.

I just wish a chocolate Bounty bar counted because I love coconut so much.

EVER DIETED?

I was never a slim girl when I was younger and did lots of stupid diets, but I haven’t dieted since my 30s.

I don’t own a set of scales, but I reckon I’ve lost 2 st and kept it off since starting workout classes with my trainer, Maxine Jones, three years ago. I’m 5 ft 4 in and a size ten.

Staying slim is about balance and portion control and not denying yourself anything you enjoy.

I try to eat sensibly during the week and allow myself a little fall off the wagon at weekends.

ANY VICES?

I enjoy a glass of red wine and love chocolate and chips, just not with every meal, every day.

ANY FAMILY AILMENTS?

We Kellys are a healthy bunch. There is a history of asthma and chest conditions, but I seem to have skipped them.

WORST ILLNESS OR INJURY?

I fell from a horse during a charity event five years ago and my leg was badly trampled.

I had emergency surgery lasting four hours and had hundreds of stitches in my leg.

I was lucky to be alive as the cut missed the main artery by millimetres, but there was still a lot of muscle and nerve damage.

I was in hospital for ten days and couldn’t walk properly for a month, then had a stick and twice-weekly physiotherapy.

I still have a horrible 8 in scar on my thigh, so I wear a sarong to hide it on the beach. Horses are beautiful animals, but I have no plans to get back in the saddle.

EVER HAVE PLASTIC SURGERY?

No. I’ve seen it go wrong too often. Everyone ends up looking the same — permanently surprised.

COPE WELL WITH PAIN?

I’m a stalwart, but that’s not always a good thing. I was put on strong painkillers (Tramadol) after my leg operation and think I came off them too quickly.

I hadn’t realised just how much it would hurt, but I was desperate to get back to normal life.

HANGOVER CURE?

A buttered roll with a square sausage (a lorne sausage) and brown sauce washed down with a can of Irn Bru.

WHAT KEEPS YOU UP AT NIGHT?

My mind is always active and I don’t sleep as much as I should. Eight hours would be perfect, but I usually get about six.

I’m really bad at going to bed early enough and I’ll often stay awake thinking about the next day’s show, especially if there’s a tricky interview lined up.

LIKE TO LIVE FOR EVER?

Only if everyone I love could also live for ever with me.

Lorraine’s new workout DVD, Brand New You, is out now.
