Want Breast Self-Exam Tips? You’ll Have to Watch a Man Get Felt Up

Undeterred, the MAMCA found a way around this censorship by creating a video featuring “man boobs” instead of female breasts. The result is a somewhat hilarious, somewhat uncomfortable series of hairy close-ups.

The video below begins with a female model unbuttoning her blouse while a voiceover explains how female breasts are censored, even when used to show breast self-examination techniques. The voiceover then cheekily says, “But we found boobs that aren’t censored,” and in steps Henry in all his naked chest glory. The next minute demonstrates each step of self-examination, including checking for redness, lumps, and shape distortion.

Finally, the video finishes up by telling viewers that the three steps of prevention are self-examination, a visit to the gynecologist, and getting a mammogram. They add that this goes for Henry, too, as men are also susceptible to breast cancer.

In an interview with Little Black Book, David, the agency that created the ad, noted, “It’s hard to get women over 25 to examine their breasts regularly to prevent breast cancer. But it isn’t hard to make them check their phones every five minutes. That’s why we decided to get them [on social media].”

It’s really a bummer that in order to educate women via the most accessible public platform, this company had to use a man; but kudos to them for figuring out a way to (sort of) cut through the red tape and help women (and yes, men) detect breast cancer early.
