Researchers found that the fakers were having phony Os 25 percent of the time—mostly when they had vaginal sex. (Maybe because it’s a lot easier to fake that than a BJ. Just an unscientific guess.)

Lucky for us, scientists also wanted to find out why guys pretend to reach the finish line. Here’s what they discovered: Men were more likely to fake it when they had a bad sexual experience, just weren’t that into their partner, were drunk, or weren’t really in the mood—all of which sound very familiar to those of us who may or may not have faked it before.

But they also did it because they didn’t want to hurt their partner’s feelings, which is actually pretty sweet.

While we don’t encourage anyone to fake it in the bedroom, it’s good to know that if your steady guy puts in a performance every now and again, he’s probably doing it with the best of intentions.
