Woman makes plea for blood donor as friend fights for her life in Thailand

The friend of a British college graduate has made an online plea for anyone with a rare blood type to come forward as her friend fights for her life in a Thailand hospital.

News.com.au reported that Lucy Anne Hill, 21, is in critical condition with a blood clot in her brain after being hit by a car while on a moped in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Hill was reportedly only one week into her backpacking trip, which she and her friend Lauren Hall were on for their gap year, a one-year program some college graduates take before seeking employment or higher education.

According to news.com.au, Hill has Type A negative blood, which less than 1 percent of the Thai population has. The blood type is also one of the rarest in the United Kingdom.

Hall posted a public Facebook update on Sunday morning asking for anyone with the blood type who is traveling to Thailand to head right to Maharaja Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital, where Hill is being treated at Rajavej Hospital. Hall didn’t disclose whether her friend would die without the blood donation, nor did she update on Hill’s condition at the moment.

In the post, she explained that the accident wasn’t Hill’s fault.

“My friend wore a helmet and did nothing wrong,” she wrote in the Facebook post.

As of Monday morning, the post had been shared more than 103,000 times.

“Everybody please share,” Hall wrote. “We need to get this everywhere. Social media can be so powerful.”
