You Can Now Undo Your Drunken Late-Night E-mails to Exes

You know that e-mail you sent to your ex last Saturday night after having a few too many? The one that went something like, “I thank I steel lurve you babeee”?

Google has got your back…kind of. The search giant just announced that Gmail now has a way to undo inadvisable e-mails after you’ve sent them via its new “Undo Send” feature. (It has actually been an option you could enable from Google Labs for a while, but now it’s easier to find.)

AMAZING, right? There is a caveat, though: You have to act fast to make it work. Like, crazy fast. Gmail only allows you to cancel an e-mail up to 30 seconds after sending it, so you’re totally screwed on last Saturday night’s tome and pretty much anytime you don’t have lightning-fast reflexes.

(Why do we feel like someone at Google is laughing their asses off about this?)

But since it’s good to have the option, here’s how you set it up:

  • Go to your settings tab (that cog in the upper-right-hand corner of the page)
  • Click on the “general” tab
  • Scroll down, and click “enable undo send”
  • Make sure you click “30 seconds” in the cancellation period (five seconds? Really, Google?)

Google is rolling this out over the next two weeks, so keep an eye on those settings.
