A child is believed to be seriously ill in hospital after an outbreak of the potentially deadly E. coli.
They remain in a specialist Glasgow hospital unit and are among a small number of cases linked to a new outbreak of the 0157 strain, health officials say.
Another child is believed to be receiving care at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee.
The cases are centred in Carnoustie, Scotland, and have led to the closure of a playgroup in the town.

It is understood the Peter Pan playgroup, based at the Carnoustie Panbride Church, was closed last week as a result of investigations.
Parents of children at Carlogie primary school, also based in the town, received letters home confirming the outbreak.
They were offered advice on how to stop it spreading.
Just last night a specialist helpline was set up for concerned families in the area.
But a relative of the ill child criticised the delay in informing families who have children at the two affected facilities of the situation.

A number of children of primary school age are believed to have undergone tests for the infection at the local health centre.
A statement said: ‘NHS Tayside Health Protection Team and Angus Council are investigating linked cases of E.coli O157 infection affecting a small number of children in the Angus area.
‘Possible sources and routes of transmission are currently being investigated and necessary control measures have been put in place to prevent further spread.
‘Those affected cases continue to be monitored and have received appropriate medical treatment and advice.

‘As a precautionary measure, a playgroup in Angus has voluntarily closed temporarily while further investigations continue.’
Dr Jackie Hyland, consultant in public health medicine, said: ‘The risk to the general public remains low and those affected have received appropriate medical treatment and advice.’
The helpline has been made available daily from 8am to 10pm.
A relative of one local youngster still awaiting test results said they believed the playgroup had been closed throughout last week.
They said: ‘A number of children have gone through the health centre at Carnoustie and been sent for E. coli tests and one is very ill and has been sent to Glasgow.

‘There were three other children in isolation and being tested when we were at Ninewells.
‘All they are saying is the doctors have got a hold of this and are doing the right thing.
‘But they know there is concern and should have been telling people about what is going on.
‘Everyone including environmental health seems to have been involved and this has been on the go for more than a week.’
‘I think they have slipped up in informing people about the situation. They could have been telling people what to look out for sooner.’
