8 Times Donald Trump Has Body Shamed Women Over the Years

Despite constant criticism for his barrage of sexist comments about women, Republican nominee Donald Trump was full of body shaming and physically degrading remarks during this week’s presidential debate. During the debate, Trump said that his opponent, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, didn’t have the “stamina” to be president (to which she promptly responded with her speaks-for-itself track record of foreign policy travels during her time in office). Trump also took heat during the debate for his previous comments about former Miss Universe Alicia Machado, whom he allegedly referred to as “Miss Piggy” when she gained weight after her win in 1996.

But Trump’s comments about women’s bodies are far from just fodder for your social media feeds—they’re downright dangerous, according to the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA), which released a statement this week condemning the candidate. “Body shaming is never acceptable, but when it comes from someone on the world stage, who is looking to assume a critical, leadership position on a global level, it is particularly damaging,” said Claire Mysko, CEO of NEDA in the statement. “Alicia Machado and each of us deserve to be respected for who we are. Our leaders need to be role models to our youth, not contribute to a culture of bullying.”

According to NEDA’s data, up to 65 percent of people with eating disorders say that bullying contributed to their condition. Earlier this year, Alicia told the The New York Times that after Trump’s very public shaming, she developed an eating disorder, struggling with anorexia and bulimia for five years.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time the Republican presidential nominee has made damaging, body-shaming comments about women. Here’s a look at his track record:
