Sex and the City introduced women of the late ’90s and early 2000s to the ultimate group of girlfriends: Carrie, Miranda, Samantha, and Charlotte. And now, through the miracle of HBO Go—not to mention endless reruns on E! and Oxygen—a whole new generation of young women get to experience the impossibly fabulous lives of the cosmopolitan-swigging foursome.

But the show isn’t exactly without its flaws—it’s definitely unwise to model your “single and fabulous…exclamation point” life after your “Which Character Are You?” quiz results. Here are a few things we learned from Carrie and company that absolutely shouldn’t be taken to heart.

1. It’s Totally Fine to Spend Your Paycheck on Shoes Instead of Rent
Um, no. Those Manolo Blahniks may be cute, but they won’t put a roof over your head.

According to the show, you’re either a hopeless romantic, a cynical workaholic, a sex-addicted party girl, or an uptight prude. But what if you’re all of the above? Or none?

3. It’s Worth It to Spend Your Time Trying to Change a Man
Spoiler alert: Mr. Big will never stop being a distant jerk. Back away slowly.

4. There’s Nothing Wrong with Tossing Back a Few Cocktails Every Night of the Week
Hangovers are very, very real—how are the “ladies who brunch” always so chipper, no matter how many cosmos they drink on a Tuesday night?!

5. Girlfriends Only Talk About Men and Sex
One time, a frustrated Miranda actually points out that these are their only topics of conversation, asking “How does it happen that four such smart women have nothing to talk about but boyfriends?”…but by the end of the episode, she’s back to talking about “Big, or balls, or small dicks.”

6. You Can Wear Heels 24/7 and Never Get a Blister
We’ve actually walked through New York City in heels, and we can say with confidence: These shoes (no matter how sky-high the price) were most definitely ot made for walking.

7. It’s a Breeze to Coordinate the Schedules of Four Very Different Women
It’s hard enough planning a brunch for two—how do these ladies, all of whom live in different parts of a very large city and work very different hours, find time to meet up almost every day for lunch or a drink?

8. Marriage Is the Ultimate Goal
Even if you’ve only seen one episode, you know that Charlotte would stop at nothing to land the perfect husband. But the others aren’t totally innocent: Carrie is only slightly more subtle about her search for “The One,” and Miranda is often frustrated with her singlehood. Samantha is the only one who seems to genuinely believe that being single isn’t the end of the world.

9. Games and Drama Are a Necessary Part of Any Relationship
When she starts dating crunchy, soulful Aidan, Carrie has stress dreams because she misses the confusing drama of her previous relationship with Big. Come on, Carrie, drama-free doesn’t mean boring!
