Aetna expands Dental Preferred Provider Organization network

Today Aetna (NYSE: AET) announced the expansion of its Dental Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) network, PPO II, to over 205,000 available dental practice locations nationally. The augmented network gives Aetna members greater access and choice when it comes to their dental care. Aetna’s Dental PPO networks serve over nine million members today.

“The recent expansion of our PPO II network makes it one of the largest discount Dental PPO networks in the country”

“The recent expansion of our PPO II network makes it one of the largest discount Dental PPO networks in the country,” said Dan Fishbein, president of Aetna’s Specialty Businesses. “Maintaining our position as a market leader in the dental care industry is important. It allows us to continue to provide our members with access to quality care at a low cost.”

Aetna members save on dental care costs when they see a PPO II network dentist. Dentists within Aetna’s PPO II network offer reduced rates to members for covered care, which controls overall costs and lowers out-of-pocket amounts.

The PPO II network expansion adds over 6,000 available dental practice locations. As a result, the network grew by five percent or more in 36 states and 13 states experienced network growth of at least 10 percent.

Aetna’s extensive network of dental providers allows employers to offer their employees valuable dental benefits with broad choice at an affordable cost – and evidence shows that proactive dental care can boost physical health. Aetna research suggests that good dental health can reduce medical claims and improve overall health.

The Aetna Dental PPO II network includes general dentists and specialists. It is automatically provided to fully-insured Dental customers. It is available by request for self-funded Dental customers. The PPO II network originally launched in 2008. Today, it can be accessed in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
