Vibin’ with friends tonight at the #VMAs

Alicia’s no-makeup movement began earlier this year. “I don’t want to cover up anymore,” she said in an essay she penned for Lenny this summer, explaining her fresh-faced crusade. “Not my face, not my mind, not my soul, not my thoughts, not my dreams, not my struggles, not my emotional growth. Nothing.” And she’s stuck to her guns, going totally bare for the BET awards, appearances on The Voice, and even in her latest music video. The reaction to Alicia’s makeup-free mission has been overwhelmingly positive, with plenty of people taking to Twitter last night to express their support.

The fact that #AliciaKeys decided to show up with no makeup at the #VMAs is a pretty powerful statement if you ask me! #WomenEmpowerment
