Hong Kong (HKSAR) – Correctional Services officers found a person in custody hurting herself in Nei Kwu Correctional Institution today (June 28).
At 11.30am, an officer found an injury mark on the left forearm of the 22-year-old female person in custody who had a record of committing self-harm.Upon enquiry, she admitted that she had used a seam-ripper to hurt herself in the workshop.
The officer immediately took her to the centre hospital for medical treatment and examination. A department clinical psychologist will follow up on the case.
A spokesman for the Correctional Services Department said, “The department uses all possible measures to prevent people in its custody from attempting suicide or self-harm. These measures include administrative arrangements, the improvement of institution facilities, staff training and first aid services.â€
The person in custody was sentenced to imprisonment for an offence of possession of dangerous drugs.
