A Sunderland couple who met whilst playing dwarfs in a Snow White panto have married in a fairy-tale wedding, with their miracle son as page boy.

Laura Whitfield, who is just 4ft 2, proposed to 3ft 11 Nathan Phillips a month before the birth of their son – the only ‘double dwarf’ in Britain.

Nathan Junior was born with two different forms of dwarfism, anachondaplasia like his mum and pseudochondaplasia like his dad, and was not expected to survive more than a few hours.

Sunderland couple Laura Whitfield, 26, and Nathan Phillips, 37, who met while playing dwarfs in a production of Show White have married in a fairytale ceremony

The couple’s two-and-a-half year old son Nathan acted as page boy for his parents’ big day

However two-and-a-half years later, the healthy toddler acted as a ring bearer at his parent’s wedding.

Laura, 26, and Nathan, 37, from Sunderland, met when they were both performing as dwarfs in a production of Snow White.

They got hitched in the lavish South Causey Inn, in County Durham, among 50 of their closest family and friends.

Bride Laura followed her son down the aisle in a £800 designer dress which trailed behind her as she reached the front of the church – where Nathan waited in his suit.

The happy couple sign the register on their wedding day. They got engaged after Laura proposed to Nathan a month before their son was born

Professional entertainer Laura said: ‘We met when we were doing a panto in Bath back in 2012.

‘It was Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, he was playing Grumpy and I was playing Soppy.

‘It was amazing because it was the perfect fairy-tale start to our life together – now we are married and the wedding was simply magical.

The newlyweds hit the dancefloor. Laura has described their big day was a ‘fairytale’ start to their life together

‘We waited so long to get married so that little Nathan could be old enough to carry the rings, but in the end the cushion was too heavy for him.

‘He decided he didn’t want to carry it any more and he threw it to the side.

‘It was quite funny and it was really special for us to have him there – he just loves to steal the show.’

Laura proposed to Nathan even though she knew he was planning to pop the question as she laughs when she gets nervous and didn’t want to ruin the moment when he surprised her

After finding out that Nathan had been planning to pop the question, Laura decided to propose herself.

Laura, who has appeared in films such as the Harry Potter series, said: ‘I knew that Nathan was going to propose to me – he had even went to my dad to ask for his permission.

‘I was just so worried because when I am nervous I can’t help but laugh, but the last thing I wanted was for Nathan to propose and for me to just laugh in his face – I didn’t want to ruin the moment.

Sealed with a kiss! The happy couple celebrate becoming husband and wife

‘I also know what he is like – it would have taken him ages to man up and just get the job done.

‘I just took matters into my own hands.

‘He was so surprised but it was so unique and lovely – it’s nice to do something a bit different.’

It was only a month after the proposal that the actress found out that she was pregnant – which was an extremely difficult time for the pair.

Laura and Nathan steal a romantic moment during their big day

Laura said their big day was a chance for both her and Nathan to show off how confident they are withing themselves

Laura said: ‘At first I was advised to consider abortion by the doctors because I was having a few health complications with my pregnancy, however I was determined to see how far we could make it with little Nathan and we both fell in love with him at the first scan.

‘It is touch and go when he was born because they did not think he would survive more than a coupe of hours after birth because of his double dwarfism, but he was a little fighter and now he is practically fine.

‘Doctors said that although little Nathan may have a few extra GP appointments compared to other children, there is no reason that he should not have a life like any other kid his age.

‘The same goes for myself and big Nathan – I suffered a bit of bullying at school because of my condition, but I soon learned how to stick up for myself and people sharp stopped bothering me.

‘I know that people doubt us because we are little, but we are just like everyone else – the only thing that is different is our height.

‘The wedding was a great platform to show everyone how confident we both are within ourselves – and we had the best day of our lives.’
