Environment tracker surpasses goal as crowdfunding wraps up

If you’ve ever worried about the quality of the air in your city, or have wanted to test your home for dangerous radiation, Scarab is a highly portable environmental tracker that keeps you informed of invisible health threats wherever you may be.

Company founders, who recently surpassed their crowd-funding goal of $100,000, describe Scarab as a digital nervous system that measures more than 16 qualities in the environment that could have health implications.

Sensors include a carbon monoxide detector, a noise-level detection circuit, a three-axis magnetic field sensor, a UV index sensor, an ozone detector, a nitrogen dioxide detector, a liquid petroleum gas detector and a gamma detector to trace nuclear pollution.

Other sensors such as the GPS module, compass and accelerometer help to localize you and give you general information about your environment such as humidity, ambient light, temperature and barometric pressure.

The corresponding app stores and quantifies all this data and lets you know if your health is at risk because of exposure to otherwise invisible environmental factors.

The gadget looks like a small button and is offered for preorder for $149 with a choice of glossy white or matte black with delivery expected in August.

Contributions of $275 and higher are rewarded with the premium version of the gadget — Scarab Magic — which is engraved in a scarab pattern.
