Waiting for the kettle to boil can feel like an age, especially if you’re busy and have a lot of work to be doing.
But there is a way to make the time go faster – and it can also help you to fit in exercise into your daily routine if you normally struggle to go to the gym during the week.
Use the minutes you normally spend checking social media on your phone by performing a simple yoga pose instead, says an expert.

A sun salutation is one of the first yoga poses you learn when you start learning the exercise, and you can build it up into a more advanced and harder version of the routine
Physical therapist Erika Mundinger told The Kitchn she recommends everyone – whether a yoga novice or a seasoned expert – do a sun salutation pose while you’re waiting for your tea or coffee to brew.
She’s come up with a beginner’s version of the classic yoga move that she says will not only loosen up your limbs for the day ahead, but also get you in the zone to then go on and have a productive day.

Beginner’s Sun Salutation to do while the kettle boils
1. Stand with your legs straight before throwing your arms back and arching your back. You should be looking at your arms and hands.
2. Then fold forward, bending at the waist until your arms touch the floor, or your toes or the bottom half of your legs to stretch your hamstring.
3. Stand up again, swinging your arms over your head and repeat 4-6 times.
Experts say performing a sun salutation can loosen the muscles and get the brain into gear – perfect to perform as you’re waiting for your first caffeine fix of the day, in that case
Yoga isn’t the only exercise you can do in five minutes while the kettle boils.
You can do a mini HIIT workout, by jumping forwards, doing a burpee and then running backwards.
The five-minute routine was put together by tea makers T2 and fitness studio Another_Space.
They also suggest performing some lunges while waiting for your drink to brew, or side planking on each side for 15 seconds at a time for 45 seconds.
