‘I Tried This Wearable Vibrator While Having Sex—Here’s What Happened’

I tried hard to imagine what that actually meant: How exactly would we both use the vibrator? Online research revealed that the We-Vibe Sync is meant to be worn by the woman during sex—it strategically hits both the clitoris and G-spot. And while your partner is inside you, he can feel the vibrations, too.

When a package came in the mail, I opened it to find a sleek box that looked similar to one that might hold a new iPhone. Inside the cube was a small U-shaped toy. A quick comparison to the illustrations on the We-Vibe website confirmed that yes, this was supposed to go inside my body. But how would my husband’s penis also go in there, I wondered. In the illustration, the We-Vibe and penis seemed to peacefully coexist, side-by-side. What would happen in real life? (Something that definitely does happen in real life? Torching fat, getting fit, and looking and feeling great with Women’s Health’s All in 18 DVD!)

In the box there was also a charger for the We-Vibe, a remote control, and instructions on downloading the We-Connect app to my phone. At first I felt a little nervous—what if I lost my phone and someone, like my fifth grade teacher Mrs. Lasker, found a sex app on it? Too intrigued not to try it, I downloaded We-Connect and started to explore. There were several different settings that changed the pattern and intensity of the vibrator. Tide, pulse, surf, bounce, and cha cha cha all looked intriguing, and I noticed that with the swipe of a finger, you could individually adjust the intensity of the internal and external vibes. This was definitely the most high-tech vibrator I had ever owned. I was ready to leave behind the rusty AA battery-powered vibrators and enter the futuristic world of the We-Vibe.

After confirming that our children were in REM levels of sleep, I took out the fully charged We-Vibe and opened the We-Connect App on my iPhone, which was on the bedside table. Using the little packet of lube that came with it, I inserted the We-Vibe into my vagina. As my husband, who we will now refer to as Simon in order to protect his privacy, waited patiently, I opened the app and tried out the different settings. I have to admit, it felt a little strange to be playing with my phone with a sex toy inside me. I wondered what other types of apps it could be fun to use from my bed—maybe I could call an Uber and order Thai food from Seamless, all while bouncing along with my We-Vibe. It’s 2017, and anything’s possible.

I also noticed there was a way to “connect lover” to the We-Connect app, so theoretically, your Parisian boyfriend could be pleasuring you from Champs-Elysées while you lay naked on your bed in your Brooklyn apartment (note to self: find Parisian lover).

Once I settled on the Tide setting (hey, waves of pleasure sounded pretty good), it was go-time. Even though I was concerned about Simon’s extremely large (did you hear that, honey, I said really large) member fitting into my vagina alongside the lovely aqua colored We-Vibe, there were no problems. During sex, we switched positions and the We-Vibe stayed in place. I’d been skeptical that I could find anything new to like about a vibrator that I hadn’t already felt, but the combination of internal and external vibrations did make sex even more enjoyable. In fact, it was so enjoyable that I found myself distracted from Simon and concentrating on the sensations the We-Vibe was producing. (I was also tempted to look at an incoming text, which confirmed that my Pad Thai was out for delivery.)

Plus, there was the newness factor—just changing up our usual routine had a positive effect. (Try adding one of these fun sex positions tonight.) So even though it was slightly weird to go to all the trouble of inserting a toy and fiddling with the settings on my phone, the We-Vibe definitely made sex more interesting—and helped me to have a great orgasm.

Simon said he didn’t mind sharing my vagina’s real estate with We-Vibe, and I’m pretty sure that he’s on board with anything that makes me into having sex with him. At $199 We-Vibe Sync is a pricey indulgence (though here’s a similar toy for $30 less), but if you’re looking to spice things up with a partner, it could be worth it.
