Lady Gaga’s Emotional Oscar Performance Has Inspired Hope and Admiration

At last night’s Oscars, Lady Gaga performed her nominated song, “’Til It Happens To You,” from the soundtrack of The Hunting Ground, a documentary about campus sexual assault. It wasn’t just the song that was moving, or the fact that she was introduced by Vice President Joe Biden. The truly inspiring part was that the singer-songwriter was joined onstage by a diverse group of survivors, who all who stood silently, baring messages scrawled on their forearms like “Not your fault” and “Unbreakable.”
