Mayo Clinic captures top two awards for Innovative Services in Health Management

Mayo Clinic captured the top two prizes for Innovative Services in Health Management, one of twelve categories presented by the Edison Awards at the ceremony in Chicago. The Gold went to the Mayo Clinic Patient App, which allows Mayo Clinic patients to have mobile access to their personal medical records and appointment schedules through the secure Patient Online Services account. It also provides the latest news and health information from Mayo Clinic. The app is currently available on iPad platforms and on Android devices.

The winner of the Silver award is Mayo’s Asthma Connected Care App, a secure web-based application for teenagers with asthma, which helps them to manage their condition and allows for a direct contact with their medical team. The app is in a pilot form and will expand to include other clinical areas.

“We are delighted about the awards, they serve as an important recognition of our efforts to reach out to patients in novel ways,” says Douglas Wood, M.D., medical director of Mayo Clinic Center for Innovation. “We will continue to develop tools to help patients take charge of their health.”

Winners were announced April 25, 2013 at the Edison Awards Annual Gala, held in Chicago.
