Meat products have been secretly labeled, EU health arch says


All companies that have rubbed falsely-labeled equine beef are underneath suspicion, a European Union’s health arch pronounced on Wednesday, adding a Commission was deliberation strengthening applicable law.

EU ministers are to accommodate after on Wednesday in Brussels to work out their response to a liaison over a sale of equine beef in products sole as containing beef.

“It is clear that somewhere down a line, someone … has fraudulently or maybe negligently labeled a product in a false way,” Borg told reporters.

“All those countries by that this beef product has upheld of march are underneath suspicion. By a countries, we meant a companies in those countries that dealt with this beef product,” he said, adding it would be astray during this theatre to indicate a finger during any classification in particular.

Wednesday’s assembly would concentration on strengthening existent EU law, Borg said, adding a Commission was study a probability of fluctuating country-of-origin labeling to processed beef products.

The issue, inspiring a flourishing series of European countries and retailers, came to light on Jan 15, when during slight tests a Food Safety Authority in Ireland detected equine beef in solidified beef burgers constructed by firms in Ireland and Britain and sole in supermarket bondage including Tesco, Britain’s biggest retailer.

Concern grew final week when a British section of solidified dishes organisation Findus began recalling the beef lasagna on recommendation from the French supplier, Comigel, after tests showed concentrations of equine beef trimming from 60 to 100 percent.
