Keeping your house tidy may be the bane of your life, but experts say it’s one of the best ways to stay in shape.
Cleaning the windows, vacuuming and dusting the tables could even help you to shed some extra pounds from your waist, new research suggests.
Mopping the floor helps to burn 314 calories – more than a cheeseburger at McDonalds, experts claim.
Revealed, the 11 everyday tasks around the house and how many calories you can burn by completing them. Making the bed requires the least amount of effort and burns just 70 calories, but mopping the floors is four times more effective in helping you lose weight
While scrubbing the floors is believed to be the equivalent of 15 minutes running and could help you to burn off that slice of pizza you had for dinner.
And if you’ve ate a bag of crisps, consider doing the ironing to burn off the 157 calories you’ve just consumed.
New research conducted by StarBrands, a British manufacturer of cleaning products, found making the bed provides the same physical benefit as doing 20 minutes of Pilates.

On average, UK adults spend around 11 hours doing house work every week – burning 2,345 calories.
A minute of light housework is equivalent to taking around 72 steps – meaning that just half an hour of chores each day could make a big difference on your fitness tracker.
Experts believe that would equal around 2lbs of weight loss each month – allowing you to stay toned during the winter months.
It is recommended that adults take up 150 minutes of moderate physical activity each week.
Vacuuming: Hoovering the floors helps to burn 175 calories per hour – equivalent to a portion of pasta – and is the same as jogging for 20 minutes
Laundry: You may not think washing your clothes requires effort but it can help to burn 148 calories – the equivalent to a glass of wine – and is the same as 40 minutes of lifting weights
Dusting: Making sure your tables aren’t clogged with dust helps to burn 166 calories each hour – the equivalent to a small bar of chocolate – and is that same as 20 minutes of aerobics
Cleaning windows: Washing glass helps to burn 231 calories each hour – the equivalent to one doughnut – and is the same as taking part in 25 minutes of circuit training
