Q I am a 65-year-old woman with a growing number of fine lines and wrinkles on my neck.
I have such thin, sensitive skin, particularly in this area, so I don’t want anything too drastic or invasive.
What would you recommend?

A Skin texture, lines and wrinkles are a common problem on the neck and decolletage for lots of older women.
It’s due to the breakdown of collagen over time, combined with a post-menopausal loss of oestrogen.

Laser treatment often delivers the best results, but this gives significant redness that can last from a few days to a week.
Prices start from £850, however one treatment is usually sufficient.
Intracel is an excellent alternative to laser, as it uses tiny, fine needles through which a radio-frequency pulse is delivered to tighten and re-model collagen.
This means frown lines and wrinkles are smoothed. A course of three treatments is usually required, with neck prices from £650.

A less aggressive way of improving the skin is to use IPL photo-rejuvenation on the neck. This also stimulates new collagen formulation and so improves texture, as well as evening out patchy pigmentation.
However, three to six treatments would be required for significant improvement, with fees from £400.
This treatment can be combined with topical products containing vitamin A (retinol) and vitamin C, which help to stimulate the formation of new collagen.
Retinol can cause redness or irritation to fair or sensitive skin, especially on the neck, so we introduce these products gradually to further improve results.
