Police open fire in Kwun Tong


Hong Kong (HKSAR) – Police are investigating a Police open fire case in which a 21-year-old man died in Kwun Tong in the small hours of today (May 5).

About 3am, Police received a report that a man caused nuisance at a residential building on Pik Wan Road. Police officers sped to scene and located the man who was threatening a 48-year-old male security guard with a cutter at the ground floor lobby.

Meanwhile, the 21-year-old wife of the man arrived at the scene. The man then attempted to attack her with the cutter.

Police officers gave verbal warnings to him but in vain. A station sergeant and a police constable fired three shots in total at him.

The man sustained shot wounds and was certified dead at scene. A post-mortem examination will be conducted to ascertain the cause of death.

Investigations by the Regional Crime Unit of Kowloon East are under way.
