The Perfect Playlist for Cardio OR Strength Training

Every week, Your New Favorite Playlist introduces you to workout-worthy tunes from a different fitness brand. This week, SLT shares one of its recent playlists.

Some workouts really get your heart pumping but fall short when it comes to strength training. Others leave your muscles sore the next day but don’t really make you sweat. But at fitness studio SLT (which stands for strengthen, lengthen, and tone), you get the best of both worlds.

Classes there take place on machines called megaformers that are basically like amped-up versions of Pilates reformers. “It allows more room for movement and different types of exercises than what the traditional reformer can do,” says Bethany Meyers, an instructor and the director of continued education at SLT. The resulting workout is often described as “Pilates on crack.” (Find out how to do an at-home version of SLT’s workout.)

Because you’re getting in strength training and cardio at the same time, the workouts are hard. It’s easy to get fatigued quickly, so Meyers relies on the music to keep the energy up in class. She created this playlist for one of her recent sessions; it’ll help you stay pumped up right until the end of even your toughest workouts:

1. John Legend, “All Of Me” (Tiësto’s Birthday Treatment Remix)
2. Icona Pop, “I Love It” (Feat. Charli XCX—Wayne G LFB Remix Radio Edit)
3. Reality, “Yolanda” (Radio Mix)
4. Pitbull, “Don’t Stop The Party”
5. The Cataracs, “All You”
6. Ellie Goulding, “Salt Skin” (Alex Metric Remix)
7. Lil John, “Turn Down For What”
8. DJ Remix Factory, “The Monster” (Remix)
9. Swedish House Mafia, “Greyhound”
10. Beyoncé, “Run the World (Girls)” (Kaskade Club Remix)
