Would You Eat Vegetable-Flavored Ice Cream?


If we asked you to name your favorite flavor of ice cream right now, we bet it wouldn’t have the word “tomato” in it. Yet Häagen-Dazs Japan just announced that it will be coming out with two new vegetable-packed flavors on May 12, according to the site RocketNews24. The two flavors, which are part of the company’s “Spoon Vege” series, will be tomato-cherry and carrot-orange.

While these pints won’t be available in the U.S., some other companies have recently introduced frozen pops that contain vegetables: There are Outshine Fruit Veggie Bars from Edy’s and Dreyer’s, which come in tangerine and carrot, blueberry medley (which contains beet and sweet potatoes), peach mango medley (which contains sweet potato, carrot, and butternut squash), strawberry rhubarb (it has pumpkin and carrot), and apple greens (those greens would be kale and spinach). Another company, Ruby Rockets, has frozen fruit and veggie pops in similar flavors.

We haven’t tried the Häagen-Dazs ice creams, but the frozen pops don’t taste like they have veggies in them (kind of like juices that contain both fruits and veggies). Could you see yourself eating savory veggie-flavored ice creams if they came to the U.S.? your thoughts in the comments!
