A yo-yo dieter who veered between overweight and super-fit has told how he finally reached a healthy weight after dropping 5 stone.

Aaron Lowe, 26, from Hull, has managed to sculpt the body of his dreams after years of binge eating punctuated by gruelling gym sessions.

After whipping himself into shape for a bodybuilding show in 2016, Aaron grew complacent and quickly piled on 6 stone in as many months – despite working as a personal trainer alongside his job as a mechanical design engineer.

Engineer and personal trainer Aaron Lowe, from Hull, piled on 6 stone in six months (pictured in January 2017 weighing 17 stone 2 lbs) but whipped his physique into shape in time for a bodybuilding competition (right, in May weighing 12 stone)

Despite being sporty from a young age, Aaron has struggled with weight his whole life which inspired him to take up bodybuilding in a big to keep his physique under control.

He told Femail: ‘The first time I decided I wanted to change my life and get into bodybuilding was when I went to watch a friend of mine compete in a show.

‘I’d been desperate to have a goal to work towards and this seemed perfect for me. I’d never had a six pack before and thought, if I can just do it this once and see the best version of myself, then I’ll be happy.

‘After I achieved my goal of stepping on stage I felt I had earned the right to eat whatever I liked because I was so lean.’

After the competitions were over, however, Aaron found himself slipping into bad habits once more, and would eat whatever he wanted – with his weight creeping back up to 6 stone.

‘I convinced myself I deserved time off from eating well and could enjoy my food,’ he recalled. ‘It never dawned on me just how badly the weight had caught up with me again until Christmas; by which time it was too late.

‘When I was bingeing my diet was awful. I would eat so much food per night that I would skip breakfast to try and counteract the calories.

‘But by dinner time I’d be starving so I would go to one of the local shops and get two sandwiches, a large sharing bag of crisps, a couple of different types of pastries and a chocolate bar.

‘I saw the scales go up but because I was weight training I had convinced myself I was putting on muscle. It was only when I saw a picture of myself that I realised I had gone too far and the only way to get back to being happy was by committing to another show.’

After struggling with binge eating last year, Aaron put on 6 stone in six months, tipping the scales at a hefty 17 stone 2 lbs.

He knew the only way to sort out his weight problems was to commit to another show and signed up just after the New Year in 2017 – quickly dropping 62 lbs in 14 weeks after joining his local gym, Xercise4Less in Hull.

Aaron now weighs a much healthier 12 stone, and is determined to keep his weight on track this time around.

‘I am still going with my journey and I am not quite ready yet but I am more than happy with the progress I’ve made so far,’ he added.

Aaron announces his engagement to fiancée Leah. The pair currently have their sights set on tackling a muddy race together before they tie the knot next year

Aaron (pictured with Leah) said: ‘I’m happy now whilst before I was tired, unfit and unhappy. If that’s not motivation enough to at least get me to the gym then I don’t know what is’

Now, Aaron hits the gym five days a week with an hour of cardio followed by an hour of weights – and an additional 60 minutes of cardio in the evening – as well as following a strict diet.

Aaron’s daily diet

Meal One Oats and a protein shake

Meal Two Seasoned chicken

Meal Three Tuna and white potato, with Nando’s sauce

Meal Four Salmon, green beans and white potato

Meal Five Scrambled eggs

Aaron gushed: ‘The person who has helped motivate me more than anyone is my prep coach Leon Levesely. He’s an amateur bodybuilder himself with an extensive knowledge on nutrition and exercise.

‘When I first started with him he was working at Xercise4Less himself. He regularly helps people through weight loss transformations and has a few awards to his name in bodybuilding.’

He currently has his sights set on tackling a muddy race with his fiancée Leah before they tie the knot next year.

Aaron said: ‘I have learned a lot of lessons from ballooning up in size and losing it again and my mindset has changed completely.

‘I can honestly say I’m happy now whilst before I was tired, unfit and unhappy. If that’s not motivation enough to at least get me to the gym then I don’t know what is.’
