Now a dentist has taken to TikTok to reveal the rather disturbing reason why he keeps a close eye on the location of his toothbrush.

In the video, which has more than 120,000 likes, the dentist explained that no matter how spick and span you keep your bathroom, the reason there’s a toilet is why your toothbrush should be elsewhere.
Dr. Brown explains, “Everyone should know this about their toothbrush. If you can see your toilet and your toothbrush in the same view without moving your head, there’s a 99 percent chance you have stool on your toothbrush.
‘Aerosols from your toilet spray into the air and end up everywhere, including on your toothbrush.’
To use a technical term, every time you flush the toilet, it causes something called a “stool fountain.”
This sprays microscopic droplets from the toilet bowl all over the surrounding space – and that includes your toothbrush, which rests innocently in a glass on the sink.
In the video, dentist Dr. Jordan Brown explains, “If you can see your toilet and your toothbrush in the same view without moving your head, there’s a 99 percent chance you have stool on your toothbrush.”

That’s why Dr. Brown has been urging people to close their toilet seats when they flush.
And it’s clear that the best place to store your standard or electric toothbrush is in the bedroom.
But if this is too much of a hassle for you, it has been suggested that you delete your toothbrush clean by keeping it separate from other people’s toothbrushes.
You can also buy covers to put on the head to keep nasty germs away.
And the video of Dr. Brown has garnered more than 1,000 comments, as many TikTok users have revealed where they store their toothbrush.
One person wrote, “I put mine in the medicine cabinet.”
And another said, “My toothbrush has a cover and I’m a drawer.”
While a third user said, “My toilet and toothbrush are in different rooms.”
Someone else said, “I close the lid when I flush, so I think I’m good.”
