Microsoft Azure integrates with MongoDB Atlas – Business
As the industry experiments to find new artificial intelligence use cases, partnerships have emerged as pivotal to the entire endeavor. One such alliance exists between Microsoft Corp. and MongoDB Inc.
From the just-announced MongoDB AI Applications Program to the release of MongoDB Atlas Search Nodes on Microsoft Azure, both parties share a commitment to elevating the developer experience and enhancing productivity.
“Our customers are so similar — we have many of the largest enterprises in the world that use MongoDB products on Azure, and it’s important that we come together and offer them a fantastic service,” said Alan Chhabra (pictured, left), executive vice president of partners at MongoDB. “And we’ve done that. So, we’re a phenomenal Azure marketplace partner. We work very deeply with the marketplace, with the Azure portal.”

The partnership’s key outcomes in detail
The basis of both companies joining forces lies in the similarities in their customer base. That necessitated a joint approach with integrated solutions that gel properly for a seamless cross-platform workflow, according to Chhabra.
“The developer side where most MongoDB starts, developers run the show for us,” he said. “We’ve integrated with lots of the popular products that Microsoft has for developers like Visual Studio, Power BI, Purview, Synapse, the whole Fabric architecture. Microsoft has done a really good job leading in the space of [artificial intelligence], especially with the large language models.”
The true synergy between Microsoft and MongoDB shines through their joint efforts in AI. Data is crucial to AI transformation, but it needs a modern, well-managed data infrastructure in the cloud. This is where Azure plays a crucial role, offering a robust platform for hosting data, including MongoDB Atlas. The integration of Microsoft’s AI capabilities with MongoDB’s Atlas, particularly through semantic queries and Vector Search, provides customers with powerful tools to harness the potential of AI in their applications, according to Celis.
“The ones that I like the most are our Semantic Kernel and MongoDB Atlas and Vector Search, because when you combine those two for a customer that is using MongoDB Atlas on Azure, then you can have streamlined data management,” he said. “You can have semantic queries that are very effective and can help you feed AI applications.”
