Tech insights: Cutting-edge technology, cybersecurity at RSAC – Business

The convergence of cutting-edge technology, strategic cybersecurity and other tech insights are top of mind for company striving to successfully navigate today’s evolving business ecosystem.

Members of theCUBE Collective, including Howie Xu (pictured, center), AI executive and host of “Byte Into Future,” talked about some of the insightful discussions and innovative solutions brought forth at this week’s RSA Conference. Discussions included lively debates on tech dominance and reflections on RSA Security LLC’s role as a catalyst for innovation delving into the tech landscape’s most pressing questions.

“To be clear, there is a value for platform, because you want all the data to be connected so that there’s not too many silos,” Xu said. “The fact that you have 50, 100 solutions, that itself is a problem.”

Navigating the tech titans: Nvidia, Cisco and Google

One of the central debates revolved around the dominance of tech giants such as Nvidia Corp., Cisco Systems Inc. and Google LLC. Dissecting the company’s trajectories, the panel gave a nod toward Google’s allure and Nvidia’s potential under CEO and founder Jensen Huang’s continued leadership.

“I’m saying that that form of computing will be prevalent,” Johal said. “What role Nvidia plays, and if what competitors come in and then they take the fair share, that still remains to be seen. If Nvidia focuses on the software and the software stack, they will do much better.”

Insights from industry leaders, including Crawford Del Prete, president of the International Data Corp., shed light on the evolving paradigm of computing, drawing parallels between the binary world and the impending quantum revolution. Analogies to the dot-com bubble underscores the current frenzy surrounding GPU capacities, hinting at potential bottlenecks on the horizon, according to Xu.

“The last two years, we couldn’t buy enough of the H100, A100,” he said. “Now, with the H200, with the next generation, I think in two years we are going to see we have [a] GPU glut. Now the GPU glut [is] not because we cannot find the application to consume that. There will be other bottlenecks … once we see that being the bottleneck, we’ll see that we over-brewed GPU capacity.”

Reflections on the RSA Conference: A nexus of innovation and tech insights

Amid the showcase of cybersecurity solutions at RSAC, startups vied for attention alongside industry behemoths. Observations on the evolving cybersecurity landscape highlighted the proliferation of tools and the challenge of prioritization for CISOs.

“I think part of the challenge here, we all talk about just so many tools, so many different things,” Vellante said. “You look at this survey that we did. Look at the priorities. Everything’s a priority. What are your top priorities? We’ve got 10. And there’s probably another list of 15 that they could mention. This is why CISOs don’t sleep at night. They’ve got 15 priorities.”

Notably, discussions gravitated toward protecting critical infrastructure, with initiatives such as the FBI’s InfraGard bridging the gap between private companies and government entities. As cybersecurity spending continues to surge, fueled by a sense of urgency, the RSA Conference remains a pivotal platform for learning, networking and innovation.

“[The FBI] have a project called InfraGard, where they have created a consortium of private companies working with the FBI,” Johal said. “The FBI leads that sort of initiative … to protect the critical infrastructure of the U.S. Those institutions are grappling the same way that private companies are grappling with the security staff.”
