What’s next for NetApp’s ecosystem: theCUBE event – Business

It’s no surprise to anyone tracking technology trends that data is going through a big evolution right now, driven by artificial intelligence. For intelligent data infrastructure company NetApp Inc., a unified data approach will be key moving forward in this new era.

That’s illustrated in the company’s second annual “Cloud Complexity Report,” released in April. The data indicates a “stark contrast” between AI leaders and AI laggards, according to NetApp.

“AI is only as good as the data that fuels it,” said Pravjit Tiwana, general manager and senior vice president of cloud storage at NetApp, in a recent release. “Both the AI leaders and AI laggards show us that in the prevailing hybrid IT environment, the more unified and reliable your data, the more likely your AI initiatives are to be successful.”

In recent months, NetApp has sought to make it easier for organizations to leverage their data for gen AI and other hybrid cloud workloads, including through a partnership with Google Cloud. What comes next for NetApp’s ecosystem will be of key interest during the “NetApp Unveils Unified Data Storage Built for the AI Era” event on May 14.

Those subjects and more will be explored by theCUBE during the event. Join theCUBE for our exclusive coverage of the “NetApp Unveils Unified Data Storage Built for the AI Era” event — live on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. (* Disclosure below.)

NetApp has been seeing rising demand

In February, NetApp reported fiscal third-quarter earnings per share of $1.94 on revenue of $1.61 billion, up 5% from the same period a year ago. The company said its all-flash array annualized revenue run rate hit a new quarterly record, up 21% year-over-year to $3.4 billion.

“Our modern approach to unified data storage, spanning all-flash and cloud environments, is clearly resonating with customers,” NetApp CEO George Kurian said in a statement at the time.

The company did exceptionally well during the quarter and was the only major infrastructure provider to deliver year-on-year revenue growth, besides Lenovo Group Ltd., according to analyst Steve McDowell of NAND Research. NetApp benefited from stronger than usual all-flash sales, McDowell noted.

“NetApp simply outperformed the market in that segment, which helped lift its overall earnings,” he said, while adding that it was concerning to see NetApp’s public cloud sales declined in the quarter while all other major cloud infrastructure providers showed growth.

Over the past number of months, NetApp has kept busy with a number of initiatives, including in announcing new security features in its data storage and management systems. Those features are intended to improve data protection and security in AI use cases focused on ransomware.

The company also recently outlined how it is seeking to turbocharge innovation in AI with intelligent data infrastructure. That’s possible by combining NetApp’s intelligence data infrastructure along with high-performance compute, networking and software from Nvidia Corp., according to the company.

“Our unique approach to AI gives customers complete access and control over their data throughout the data pipeline, moving seamlessly between their public cloud and on-premises environments,” said Arunkumar Gururajan, vice president of data science and research at NetApp, in a release. “By tiering object storage for each phase of the AI process, our customers can optimize both performance and costs exactly where they need them.”
