It’s the age-old debate that many a group of female friends has indulged in after a couple of glasses of wine.

And the users of Mumsnet have got into a hilariously heated discussion about what is acceptable practice when it comes to shaving pubic hair.

Posting under the thread title ‘So does everyone *ahem* shave their foof?’, user Sisterelephant said: ‘Apparently I’m in the minority with a full bush.’

User nOne agreed and said: 'My DH (dear husband) prefers me au naturel'

User nOne agreed and said: ‘My DH (dear husband) prefers me “au naturel”‘

But her fears were soon assuaged when other users were quick to announce that they too don’t groom their nether regions.

Flossietoot said: ‘I think there’s something weird about wanting to be bald’, while CocktailQueen said: ‘Au natural here, except for summer when I trim it for swimming cozzies…’

But one user revealed a rather novel way of keeping her pubic hair neat and tidy.

Destinysdaughter wrote: ‘I get the bloke to do it for me! I wouldn’t do it at all if left to my own devices.’

The conversation quickly turned heated between those who preferred to go au naturel and those who kept things trimmed.

User PleaseMissPlease wrote: ‘As it’s natural to have hair there once you are over about 9 or 10, I think the onus is on the shavers to explain why, and stop trotting out the “hygienic” argument.

‘You will find numerous quotes online from gynaes who say it’s not hygienic and the hair is there in fact for protection against all kinds of bugs.’

But NeedAScarfForMyGiraffe said: ‘I shave. It’s nothing to do with men. Or porn. I don’t look like a prepubescent child. It’s not anti-feminist.’

PleaseMissPlease rebutted: ‘I can’t see any patronising comments from the hairy ones here.

‘But what I do see is the suggestion or downright assertion that hair smells and is dirty so the logical extension is that those of us with hair and smelly and dirty.

‘Body hair trap pheromones- this is well known. It’s not the kind of smell you are going to notice if you’re standing next to someone in the queue at Asda, but it’s a subtle smell that supposedly appeals to the opposite sex, under the right circumstances.

So patronising or not, removing hair is in fact, scientifically, reducing sexual appeal, not enhancing it.’

And one user took exception to another saying that shaving pubic hair made the vulva look like a child’s.

HoneyDragon said: ‘It does mine thanks. Who made you the voice of all the genitals?’

And Puzzledbyadream refuted claims that only middle-aged women refused to shave.

She said: ‘At 25 I feel like I’m doing something weirdly revolutionary by only trimming and expecting people I date to deal with it. Nobody I’ve slept with has ever complained but it does make me feel like I’m probably a bit weird. I just find it really uncomfortable without it, and like it’s only hair. In winter I don’t tend to shave my legs either.’

But one user, HooseRice, simply wanted everyone to get along.

She said: ‘Nothing weird about being a baldie, landing strip, trimmed, waxed, vajazzled or just as nature intended.

‘As long as you’re happy.’
