A mother-of-two has shared horrific photos of the second-degree burns she got when her Breville cooker malfunctioned, causing its boiling contents to cover her.

Carizza Bordeos, from Cairns, was a metre away from her Breville Fast and Slow Cooker BPR200 and had it on its pressure cooking setting, when the fat and meat exploded from it and flew across the room.

The contents landed on the 28-year-old as she vacuumed the floor, badly burning her arm, neck and shoulder on September 8.

Ms Bordeos had bought the product in 2010 and said that she had never had a problem before now.

‘Hot water was coming out of the lid, but the lid was still on it, but it was splashing hot water,’ the mum told Kidspot.

In a lot of pain and realising how bad it was, Ms Bordeos drove herself to the emergency room where she was told she had burns to 10 per cent of her body.

She had to be admitted to Cairns Base Hospital for five nights as doctors feared the burns could get infected, making her situation worse.

The pain was so unbearable that Ms Bordeos was on strong pain medication for five weeks, and said that it was the some of the worst pain she had ever experienced.

‘I would prefer labour birth pains, than burn pains,’ she said. ‘I would take labour any day over burns.’

A couple of days after the incident , Ms Bordeos said she sent Breville her cooker so they could find out what caused the fault.

Subsequently, the mum-of-two discovered that the slow cooker was recalled last year due to a faulty lid.

‘This could lead to scalding or burns if the user was near the appliance when the steam released,’ the company said in the recall.

And just three week ago, Ms Bordeos claimed she saw the same slow cooker being sold in her home town, which worried her.

Breville has stated that the new model of the slow cooker, with a redesigned lid, is on sale but that it is safe.

Despite this, the mum says she wants to raise awareness of the fault to try and stop any future injuries happening to people not aware of the recall.

Anyone who has the Fast Slow Cooker BPR200, purchased between October 2010 to October 2015 with production codes 1034 to 1511 should contact Breville for a replacement lid at breville.com.au/recall.
