Appointments to Appeal Board Panel under Human Organ Transplant Ordinance announced


Hong Kong (HKSAR) – The Government today (August 29) announcedappointments to the Appeal Board Panel constituted under section 7I of the Human Organ Transplant Ordinance. The Secretary for Food and Health has appointed Miss Lisa Lau Man-man as a new member and re-appointed eight existing members to the Panel for a term of three years from September 1, 2014.

The re-appointed members are Ms Linda Chan Ching-fan, Ms Kam Yim-mui, Ms Carine Lam Chuen-wa, Mr Lam Kin-lai, Dr Lawrence Li Kwok-chang, Dr Victor Tse Chun-yan, Mr Horace Wong Yuk-lun and Dr Andrew Yip Wai-chun.

The Human Organ Transplant Ordinance (Cap.

465) is intended to prohibit commercial dealings in human organs intended for transplanting, to restrict the transplanting of human organs between living persons and the transplanting of imported human organs, and for supplementary purposes connected with those matters.

Under the Human Organ Transplant (Amendment) Ordinance 2004, which came into operation on September 1, 2011, an exemption mechanism for regulated organ products was provided and the Panel was set up to process appeals against decisions on exemption.
