These gruesome images show the effects smoking has on the body.

They show how toxins, including arsenic and cyanide, circulate around the body from the lungs to the heart and then the brain.

They are part of a new stop-smoking campaign launched by Public Health England to highlight the damage done to smokers’ bodies.

Public Health England has launched a new stop-smoking film. It shows how smoke enters the lungs (pictured) where it causes serious damage

The Smokefree Health Harms campaign points out that inhaling dangerous chemicals in cigarettes damages major organs and increases the risk of stroke and dementia.

The chemicals move through the heart, the lungs and into the bloodstream, finally damaging cells in the brain.

The campaign film informs viewers: ‘Every time you smoke, blood that’s thick and dirty with toxins circulates through your body in seconds increasing your chances of a heart attack or stroke. If you could see the damage, you’d stop.’

The film shows a man standing outside smoking. It then illustrates how the smoke he inhales enters his lungs before passing through his blood vessels into his heart and finally his brain.

As the film pans through the body, it shows the organs being rapidly damaged.

England’s chief medical officer, Professor Dame Sally Davies, said: ‘We know about the serious effect smoking has on the heart and lungs but smokers need to be aware of how much potential damage is being done to the brain and other vital organs through toxins in cigarettes entering the blood.

Before you think, ‘well you got to die from something’ Lung cancer slowly suffocates you.. You don’t just get lung cancer and other diseases and just die.. You suffer the effects of it.. painfully.

My wife was a smoker, she died from lung cancer in 2004. She had a two week stay in hospital about three months before. She was on oxygen for most of her stay. When she came home the smell of the house shocked her. She went in the room where she smoked and asked me to take down the curtains as they stank. I never smoked yet had not noticed the smell being that bad. She did not smoke after that of course and she spent her remaini
ng months full of regret and apologised I don’t know how many times for ” making us smoke” . Our granddaughter was born on 8th Dec. My wife died 18th Jan. She was so sad about being terminal and not being able to watch her granddaughter grow and said, ” it’s ok when you don’t have the disease and think it will never happen to you, but suddenly bang there it is and it does not take any prisoners. ” smoking is a choice people make. It is dangerous along with heavy drinking etc. etc. But it is still a mugs game. Stay healthy and have a great new year.

It could take 10-15-20 years for these conditions to develop. Drink enough alcohol, also legally available, and you could be dead within a couple of hours. I know which one is the more dangerous, and it isn’t a cigarette.

it’s how people choose to spend their money isn’t it? If they wish to smoke or drink well then let them. its their pleasure then go right ahead it’s none of our business.

Why does our government continue to waste vast amounts of taxpayer’s money on such useless campaigns when the solution is simple. BAN THE SALE OF AND SMOKING OF TOBACCO. But they won’t do that because there is too much tax and so many jobs involved. It’s just the usual smoke and mirrors of ineffectual government.

The thing is, having read that I am worried as I smoke 20 a day, worrying makes me stressed so now I am having another smoke to relax myself. Catch twenty two.
